FROM A FORMER LAW LECTURER
To Help You Survive Law School
I usually try to keep the posts in this resources' section instructive and informative. But today’s post will be a bit more personal. I wanted to talk to you about why I created one of the tools that I sell on my website which are called Law Essay Templates. These templates serve as effective guides for writing law essays. They are ready-to-use structures that allow you to get a full step-by-step essay structure that answers your specific question by quickly selecting a few things here and there and putting in a few pieces of information. Let's get right to it. Frustration with not knowing how to write law essaysThe first reason why I decided to create the templates is actually because I was myself struggling as a first year law student. I can honestly still remember when I was sitting in the library and studying hard to try to understand how to write my law assignments, and still not getting a first after all the diligent work I'd put into the writing process. The problem was that nobody explained to me with enough detail and guidance how to write law essays, and none of the information available to me seemed to cover what I needed to know. At that time, what I really needed was for someone to just give me a winning, ready-to-use essay structure, and to tell me how to use it. I wanted to know exactly what to put in the introduction, the main body and the conclusion of my essays to get a first, and how to do this consistently. The worst part is that deep down I knew that writing law essays couldn't be as difficult as it appeared, if I just knew exactly what to do. This feeling is what led me, many years later, to create something that would help law students avoid all the confusion and the frustration of not knowing how to write their essays. Once I started teaching at university and, later on, tutoring students, this need inside of me just kept growing, to teach students how to very quickly structure an essay, especially if they don't have much time. Lack of useful law essay writing resourcesWhen I first started looking for useful study materials on how to write law essays as a student, I just didn't find anything good enough out there. It seemed like nothing that was already out there was really me to learn what exactly I was supposed to do to get a first in my law essays. Later on, when I started tutoring students in the law essay writing process, I came across the same exact problem. I was looking for materials that I could use to teach them how to write a law essay, and all the information available out there was just very, very generic. Usually, it was prepared by former students themselves who were trying to be tutors, but never really treated tutoring professionally. They were usually very good at one specific subject, but they didn't have a good knowledge and understanding of how to explain the very process of first class essay writing in general to someone. Then, I came across some information prepared by university lecturers. You would think that the advice provided by them would help you to learn quickly how to write first class law essays, but university lecturers are very busy people and they are really paid mostly to teach their specific subjects as well as prepare and mark the assessments. They don't really have much time in their daily routine to really think through how to explain to students the law essay writing process in general. This means that their materials are usually quite brief and way too generic to provide the necessary down-to-earth, step-by-step guidance on essay writing. As a tutor, this lack of quality essay writing materials in law motivated me a lot. I thought to myself, "I need to sit down and think about how I get my students to start writing first class law essays". So I recognised the need for some sort of tool that could really help students with writing any law assignment, whether essay-style or problem-style. And that's when the 1st Class Law Essay Templates were born. TIP: Want to quickly structure and write any problem-style law essay? Check out my 1st Class Law Problem-Style Essay Template. Limited availability for individual sessionsWhen I first started tutoring I used to help students through individual essay plan sessions. When they were struggling with a particular assignment, I would prepare an essay plan for their specific essay question, which would provide them with a clear and easy-to-follow structure. But with time the demand for the sessions grew so much that I could no longer help as many students as I wanted to. The requests for new sessions in my inbox kept piling up and I felt sad and frustrated that I couldn't cater to my students' needs. This is what go me thinking, "How do I make this knowledge that I have more accessible to all students?", "How do I get every single student of English law in the UK or anywhere else in the world to just look at an assignment question and immediately know how to structure their essay?", "How do I make them understand what number of cases, statute sections and journal articles to include in their essay and how to do it?". The Essay Templates I created are a response to those questions. They include all the knowledge I have gained in the years of experience of teaching students how to write first class law essays in an easy to use format that just gets you writing law essays straight away. I have been working on, refining and testing them over a period of a few years while tutoring my students through individual sessions, to make sure that they really do their job well. I wanted to be certain that they would make law students less scared of the essay writing process and less stressed about approaching their individual assignments. So far, based on the feedback I have been getting, I have done my job well. So if you are looking for a tool that will help you structure any law essay very quickly, then my 1st Class Law Essay Templates are the right solution for you. |
